A client was being asked by police to present himself at a police station to be arrested for firearms and drug cultivation charges. Our client was already the subject of an Intensive Corrections Order and a Community Corrections Order in relation to firearms offences. We negotiated with police to arrange a mutually agreeable time for our client to present himself. He was then placed before the court with 9 separate charges some of which are considered serious enough by the court to not grant bail unless a substantial reason can be shown (these are also known as ‘show cause’ offences). Despite Police opposing bail, His Honour was ultimately satisfied that substantial reasons were given which allowed bail to be granted.
